Preparing artwork for a readable shirt mockup

Check contrast, transparent edges and placement before presenting a shirt design.

Start from the production artwork

Use the design file intended for the shirt rather than a screenshot containing editor controls. Export a clean image with the background treatment you actually want. Inspect transparent edges on both light and dark backgrounds so a pale halo does not surprise you later.

Check contrast on the garment

A black line drawing may be readable on white and disappear on charcoal. Compare the design on each garment color you intend to show. If you add an outline for visibility, confirm that the production artwork includes it too. A mockup should explain the product you can deliver.

Give the design a placement reference

Measure placement relative to a real collar or garment panel when you have a sample. Avoid relying on the apparent size of a model in the image. Keep a simple record such as centered chest, desired print width and distance below the collar for your printer.

Separate preview from print approval

A generated mockup is a visual planning aid. It does not validate ink behavior, embroidery detail or exact fabric color. Review a physical sample or your printer’s proof before promising final placement. Retain the original artwork and describe mockup images clearly when using them in a listing.
